Gellért Hill

Gellért Hill is one of the most important sights of Budapest. What many tourists don't know, however, is that the Citadel Fortress and the Statue of Liberty are not the only main attractions. You can also climb the hill from Gellért Square.

You can see the Liberty Bridge, the Chapel of the Rock, walk in the parks, playgrounds and slides for children. From here you can walk to the Citadel and the monument, but only on foot, through cages and parks.

There are no shops on this side, so it's a good idea to bring water with you. Also be prepared to walk uphill here. Walking on Gellért Hill is a super activity, whether as a tourist or a local.

Remember that in spring 2023, the observation deck at the Citadel / Statue of Liberty is still under renovation, so the most interesting point of the mountain is unfortunately not open to visitors.
